恐龙最早出现时期
　　众所周知，恐龙统治了三个地质时代，共一亿六千五百万年。不过，在三叠纪和侏罗纪早期，恐龙仍然未成为非常强大的物种，几乎完全地主宰了整个动物的进化过程。到了侏罗纪末期，非常庞大的蜥脚类成为了曾经在这个地球上存在过最庞大的生物。侏罗纪末期是牠们统治地球的顶峰“黄金时期”，无论多样性，智力，体型上都远远凌驾了同时期的其他生物。究竟在这个地球历史上最传奇的物种是如何出现，又是如何崛起的呢？

　　在恐龙出现以前，地球上已经出现蜥蜴类型的物种，牠们的体型虽然及不上恐龙，不过相比当时的其他动物，牠们占有一定的优势。古生物学家相信牠们就是后来出现的恐龙的雏型。蜥蜴在三叠纪之前的几个地质时代——石炭纪(3.63亿至2.9亿年前)已经出现。在那时代出现了相信是世界最早的爬行动物: 西洛锡安蜥。到了恐龙出现之前的一个地质时代——二叠纪时，爬行动物的种类渐趋多样化，而且形状也开始接近最早的恐龙。二叠纪是一个比较干旱的时代，沙漠十分常见。在同一个时代，像基龙和异齿帆背龙一类群体生活的蜥蜴活跃在沙漠的绿洲。在二叠纪晚期，生物的演化出现了两个不同的趋势，而两个趋势都对地球的历史有深远的影响。其中一种趋势叫做恐龙，另一种趋势叫做哺乳类动物。

　　就在地球的演化进行得如火如荼之际，一颗比6500万年前结束恐龙时代的陨石还要庞大的小行星在二叠纪末期撞击地球。撞击造成了多数物种的灭绝，但同时也成为了恐龙出现的催化剂。在二叠纪时期，真正的恐龙要正式登场了。黑瑞龙是其中一种最早出现的恐龙，牠的体型细小，身手非常敏捷，很快地成为了生存游戏的大赢家。到了二叠纪末期，空骨龙出现了，牠是很多肉食恐龙和鸟类的原形。很快地到了侏罗纪时期，侏罗纪早期食草恐龙开始往体型方面进化，体型的优势可以帮助他们摆脱肉食恐龙的追击。因而出现了蜥脚类恐龙；庞大的蜥脚恐龙类将恐龙的进化推到最高峰。另外一个出现庞大蜥脚类恐龙的原因是气候的关系，根据地质学纪录，侏罗纪晚期温暖潮湿，恐龙可以成长到超过三十公尺长。另外，肉食恐龙也变得更庞大，更有攻击、威胁性；例如在北美洲的异特龙。另外，非常特别的恐龙，例如有羽毛的中华龙鸟开始踏上鸟类进化的道路。在气侯和生存条件的影响下，侏罗纪末期是恐龙时代的全盛时期。
